The Great Gatsby - human nature, society, and the American dream?

Well the Great Gatsby was all about the corruption and false ideals of the American Dream. This dream and fantasy to be wealthy and popular was very much corrupt as we see with Daisy and her husband. They went above and beyond to appear welathy, but as we saw it didn't really make them happy. The same thing goes for Gatsby. With his fake books, fancy clothes and major parties, he does all he can to appear well of in order to gain Daisy's attention and acceptance. But the ideals of love in human nature can also be corrupted by James' false dreams and hopes over Daisy. He was in love with the "idea" of Daisy, not so much her. Society is just as corrupt as any of this because they enforce these false ideas and values. Look at the setting of the town and the duality between a wasteland and paradise with the dinky town and Gatz's place.
